May 11, 2021
Over the last few days there has been a significant escalation of hostilities in Israel, particularly, although not only, in the south of the country. We hope that the violence will soon pass and that life in Israel will soon return to normalcy. Our summer programs begin for the most part at the end of May, and we are all hard at work at finalizing arrangements for these programs. At the same time we are carefully monitoring the security situation. We are in constant contact with all of our program organizers and our partners at Masa and the Jewish Agency in order to implement, if needed, any required program adjustments. All of our participants, as a matter of practice, receive safety and security orientations at the start of the program, with particular attention to elements such as location of safe rooms and shelters, how to respond during warning sirens and how to strengthen general awareness of ones surroundings and related developments. We are committed to the health and safety of our participants, both in terms of COVID-19 and security issues, and will continue to update our participants, partners and extended networks as the situation develops.
*If health and safety conditions in Israel do not allow for the program to take place not, the program will shift to being entirely remote. The decision will be made approximately two months prior to the program start date.. Please note, if this happens, it will affect the types of internships available. Participants who do not wish to participate on an entirely remote program will be permitted to withdraw and receive a full refund for their program fee.
**There is a chance that health/safety conditions will require us to implement a 2 week quarantine upon arrival in Israel. There is also a chance that the program will shift to entirely remote if travel is restricted past a 2 week quarantine upon arrival. For more information, visit our FAQ responding to COVID-19.
***If this becomes a remote program, the program cost will change to reflect this shift in expenses. The program cost will then be $150.
****In the event that the program needs to shift to be entirely remote, there could be additional limitations on the types of internship placements available. Participants will be asked to be flexible under these circumstances and Onward Israel is committed to making sure participants still have a professional and positive work experience.
Remote Internship Opportunities
In the event that the program is shifted to remote, participants would be paired with an Israeli company or organization and assigned work projects to complete over the course of the program. It is expected that participants complete their work projects during the designated dates of the program and fully participate in all required enrichment activities. The type of work that participants would complete remotely might differ from what they would be doing in person. Additionally, some fields or internship types might not be available as hands-on work won’t be possible.
