Elaina B. – Boston Jerusalem, Summer 2019

“Our second week living, working and exploring in Jerusalem has been even more exciting than the first. Though it can get difficult to balance our work responsibilities and taking advantage of all Israel has to offer (and enough sleep…), we all are finally getting into the swing of things and living by the motto: work hard, play hard. Some of us spent the weekend enjoying the beautiful beaches of Tel Aviv, while others stayed in Jerusalem and had a relaxing Shabbat. Many of us had the opportunity to visit the spectacular Light Show at the Old City as well. Most importantly, the food here is amazing! We’ve spent a lot of time perusing the Machane Yehuda Market and scouting the best fruit, olives, pita and of course, falafel… (the 10 shekel one right outside the shuk is a lifesaver).
On that note, my internship combines two of my favorite things in the world: videography and food. I’m working as the video marketing intern at Jerusalem Village, a nonprofit that builds connections between native Jerusalemites and young adults who are new to the city through various events and workshops, most of which revolve around food. My role this summer consists of filming events and workshops Jerusalem Village hosts, but also various events and festivals that are occurring throughout the city in an attempt to draw more young adults to Jerusalem. This past week I worked on shooting and editing promo videos for social media and also had the opportunity to attend the ROI Summit Shabbat dinner that Jerusalem Village hosts every year. My internship has been amazing so far and I can’t wait for the upcoming weeks!”
