    VT Hillel Onward Israel participants will be matched with internships that connect to their creative passion and offer real-world experience in unique fields from academic research, engineering, development and much more towards what they are hoping to achieve at VT. Participants will explore Israel and experience living like a local with other Hokies in Tel Aviv!

    Build your resume through a high-level internship based on your skills, interests and future plans. Intern 4-5 days a week, and immerse yourself in contemporary Israeli society through the Israel Now Days, group activities, with a cohort of other young adults from Virginia Tech, a weekend seminar with participants from other Onward Israel programs and more. The Israel Now days will include visits to local NGOs and explorations of contemporary Israeli culture, environment, and politics.

    During your free time, explore Tel Aviv’s exciting nightlife, beaches, foodie scene and culture. Enjoy a weekend with peers from around the world at an Onward Israel breakout seminar and explore all that Israel has to offer on free weekends.

    This Onward Israel – Masa program is operated through a partnership between the Beacon and Shapira Foundations and other leading philanthropists, and Masa Israel Journey. It is organized by Israel Experience.

    Participants on Onward Israel programs that are run in partnership with Masa may return to Israel on long-term Masa programs after Onward Israel although the size of any potential scholarship may be influenced by prior participation on Onward Israel.     June 3 – July 28, 2021

    You MUST be available to participate for the entire length of the program.**

    Program Cost
    $775*

    The program cost includes housing, medical insurance, a modest food stipend, and ground transportation. Participants will be required to submit a $300 credit card authorization as a participation and security deposit. Charges will not be made if participants complete the program in good standing.

    All participants are responsible for the cost of and arrangement of their own flights.  Participants should not purchase your flights until a decision has been made about the viability of the program.

    *If this becomes a remote program, the program cost will change to reflect this shift in expenses. The program cost will then be $150.

    Other immersive Israel programs we offer with Hillel at Virginia Tech might be available to help cover your flights such as Birthright Israel and Israel Perspectives trip. For which the flights will be subsidized and you would be able to stay back to back in Israel between the programs.

    The actual cost of the Onward Israel program is much higher, and is subsidized up to 70% by Onward Israel, private donors, and local Jewish communities and institutions.

    Masa-eligible participants in programs which are part of the Onward/Masa partnership may qualify for additional scholarships. For more information, call Onward Israel or your local partner professional.

    Acceptance Criteria

    This program is open to young adults between 19-27 years old (or at least one full year post-high school at the start of the program) from Virginia Tech with an interest in interning with the field that compliments what they are studying.  Other acceptance criteria is as follows:
    ~Are fluent in English
    ~Students must have been to Israel before on Birthright Israel or a similar short-term trip
    ~Students returning to Virginia Tech in the fall of 2021
    Have NOT spent 3 or more months in Israel as part of an educational or peer-program (this includes semester abroad, gap year or any other MASA or Onward Israel program)

    Accommodations
    Apartment or dorm-style housing in Tel Aviv.

    The number of participants to an apartment or room is dependent on the size of the accommodations and number of participants on the program.
