Vanderbilt Hillel Onward Israel Experience is an immersive internship program offering resume building placements in a wide variety of opportunities in the greater Tel Aviv Area.

Build your resume through a high-level internship based on your skills, interests and future plans. Intern 4-5 days a week, and immerse yourself in contemporary Israeli society through the Israel Now Days, group activities, with a cohort of Vanderbilt University students and friends, a weekend seminar with participants from other Onward Israel programs and more. The Israel Now days will include visits to local NGOs and explorations of contemporary Israeli culture, environment, and politics.

During your free time, explore Tel Aviv’s exciting nightlife, beaches, foodie scene and culture. Enjoy a weekend with peers from around the world at an Onward Israel breakout seminar and explore all that Israel has to offer on free weekends.
If health and safety conditions allow. If not, the program will shift to being entirely remote. The decision will be made approximately two months before the program’s start date. Please note, if this happens, it will affect the types of internships available. Participants who do not wish to participate on an entirely remote program will be permitted to withdraw and receive a full refund for their program fee.
Note, there is a chance that health/safety conditions will require us to implement a 2 week quarantine upon arrival in Israel. Program cost includes housing, insurance, modest food stipend, ground transportation and program costs.
All participants are responsible for cost of and arranging their own flights and additional spending money.
Participants will be required to submit a $300 participation and security deposit in cash upon arrival. Deposits will be refunded at the end of the program pending good standing.
The actual cost of the Onward Israel – Masa program is much higher, and is subsidized up to 70% by Onward Israel, private donors, Masa Israel Journey, and local Jewish communities and institutions. Participants are responsible for arranging their own flights.
Additional scholarships for those who require additional financial assistance are available on a limited basis. For more information, call Onward Israel or your local partner professional.
Participants on Onward Israel – Masa programs may return to Israel on long-term Masa programs after Onward Israel. They may also be eligible for additional scholarships from Masa to help fund their participation, although the size of that scholarship may be influenced by prior participation on Onward Israel. Applicants must be a student or young adult studying at a higher education campus in Nashville / Middle Tennessee.
Students must have been to Israel before on Birthright or a similar short-term trip (this includes Vanderbilt Hillel’s 2021 summer Birthright trip). Students that have spent more than three months living, participating on an organized trip, or gap year MAY BE ineligible.
Apartments or dorm-style housing in the Tel Aviv area.
The number of participants to an apartment or room is dependent on the size of the accommodations and number of participants on the program. This Onward Israel – Masa program is operated through a partnership between the Beacon and Shapira Foundations and other leading philanthropists, the Government of Israel, The Jewish Agency for Israel and Masa Israel Journey.
