The actual cost of the Onward Israel program is much higher, and is subsidized up to 70% by Onward Israel, private donors, and local Jewish communities and institutions. Participants are responsible for arranging their own flights.
Masa-eligible participants in programs which are part of the Onward/Masa partnership may qualify for additional scholarships. For more information, call Onward Israel or your local partner professional.
Participants on Onward Israel programs that are run in partnership with Masa may return to Israel on long-term Masa programs after Onward Israel. They may also be eligible for additional scholarships from Masa to help fund their participation, although the size of that scholarship may be influenced by prior participation on Onward Israel. For details please contact Masa Israel Journey directly.
-This program is open to young adults ages 19 to 27 who live or attend college in Greater Philadelphia and have been to Israel at least once before on Birthright Israel or another short term Israel experience.
-There are limited spaces available for those who have spent three or more months in Israel as part of an educational or peer-program (this includes semester abroad, gap year or any other MASA or Onward Israel program). If this describes you, we encourage you to apply for one of those spaces. If you are accepted after those spaces are filled, you will be placed on the wait list for the program.
-All participants must be fluent in English. Hebrew knowledge is very helpful but not required.
Participants are placed in houses, apartments or dorm-style housing in the Be’er Sheva area. The number of people to an house, apartment or room will vary. While meeting common standards, Onward Israel housing differs by program and even within a program. To learn more about this and other Onward Israel housing details, please visit our housing FAQ.
About Be’er Sheva: As one participant noted, “Be’er Sheva has the vibrancy of a growing, changing city and the charm and serenity of a small town. It is because of this dichotomy that I have fallen in love with this multifaceted city. It became my home for two months, and a place I will always long to return to.” Other participants have commented that being in Be’er Sheva allowed them to see the “real Israel” as well travel extensively and visit many places in Israel.
This Onward Israel program is operated through a partnership between the Beacon and Shapira Foundations and other leading philanthropists, Masa Israel Journey, the Jewish Agency for Israel and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and is organized by Israel Experts.
