Penn State Hillel
Penn State Hillel Onward Israel is geared towards students from Penn State looking to live and work in Israel over the summer. This opportunity stretches to a variety of different internship placements and allows students to gain experience in an international community. Participants will get to live with other Penn State students on top of traveling and learning throughout the experience.

Build your resume through a high-level internship based on your skills, interests and future plans. Intern 4-5 days a week, and immerse yourself in contemporary Israeli society through the Israel Now Days, group activities, with a cohort of other young adults from Penn State University, a weekend seminar with participants from other Onward Israel programs and more. The Israel Now days will include visits to local NGOs and explorations of contemporary Israeli culture, environment, and politics.
During your free time, explore Tel Aviv’s exciting nightlife, beaches, foodie scene and culture. Enjoy a weekend with peers from around the world at an Onward Israel breakout seminar and explore all that Israel has to offer on free weekends.
If health and safety conditions allow. If not, the program will shift to being entirely remote. The decision will be made approximately two months before the program’s start date. Please note, if this happens, it will affect the types of internships available. Participants who do not wish to participate on an entirely remote program will be permitted to withdraw and receive a full refund for their program fee.
Note, there is a chance that health/safety conditions will require us to implement a 2 week quarantine upon arrival in Israel. Program cost includes housing, insurance, modest food stipend, ground transportation and program costs.
All participants are responsible forcost of and arranging their own flights and additional spending money.
Participants will be required to submit a $300 participation and security deposit in cash or check upon arrival. Deposits will be refunded at the end of the program pending good standing.
The actual cost of the Onward Israel – Masa program is much higher, and is subsidized up to 70% by Onward Israel, private donors, Masa Israel Journey, and local Jewish communities and institutions. Participants are responsible for arranging their own flights.
Additional scholarships for those who require additional financial assistance are available on a limited basis. For more information, call Onward Israel or your local partner professional.
-Participants on Onward Israel – Masa programs may return to Israel on long-term Masa programs after Onward Israel. They may also be eligible for additional scholarships from Masa to help fund their participation, although the size of that scholarship may be influenced by prior participation on Onward Israel. This program is open to young adults between 19-27 years old (or at least one full year post-high school at the start of the program) from Penn State University with an interest in interning with the field that compliments what they are studying. Commonwealth campus students should contact Jessie Paley at email@example.com for clarification. Other acceptance criteria is as follows:
- Fluent in English
- Students must have been to Israel before on Birthright Israel or a similar short-term trip.
- Must be returning to Penn State University Park campus the semester following the program
- Have NOT spent 3 or more months in Israel as part of an educational or peer-program (this includes semester abroad, gap year or any other MASA or Onward Israel program)
Apartments or dorm-style housing in the Tel Aviv area.
The number of participants to an apartment or room is dependent on the size of the accommodations and number of participants on the program. Participants will be asked to be flexible under these circumstances and Onward Israel is committed to making sure participants still have a professional and positive work experience.
