You’re sitting in a funky Tel Aviv cafe with an iced coffee in your hand and a smile on your face. It’s been a crazy day at the office. You’re two weeks into an eight-week internship, and you’ve made new friends, learned new skills, and your conversational Hebrew isn’t too shabby! This could be you: Onward Israel LA is your chance to travel to Israel with a group of new friends from LA and gain valuable professional experience while exploring contemporary Israel.
Have an adventure in Israel this summer and build your resume! Develop your professional future and skills through a high-level, personalized internship among Israeli peers and professionals. During this Tel Aviv-based internship program, you are placed in a work environment based on your skills, interests and future plans. Intern 4-5 days a week, and immerse yourself in contemporary Israeli society through the Israel Seminar Days, group activities, with a cohort of other young adults from Los Angeles, a weekend seminar with participants from other Onward Israel programs and more. The Israel seminar days will include visits to local NGOs and explorations of contemporary Israeli culture, environment, and politics.
During your free time, explore Tel Aviv’s exciting nightlife, beaches, foodie scene and culture. Enjoy a weekend with peers from around the world at an Onward Israel breakout seminar and explore all that Israel has to offer on free weekends.
Join The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles’s Onward Israel program and have the summer of a lifetime!
Cost includes housing, insurance, modest food stipend, ground transportation and program costs.
Participants are responsible for arranging their own flights.
Participants are required to submit a $300 participation and security deposit in cash upon arrival in Israel. Deposits will be refunded at the end of the program pending good standing.
The actual cost of the Onward Israel – Masa program is much higher, and is subsidized up to 70% by Onward Israel, private donors, Masa Israel Journey, and local Jewish communities and institutions.
Masa-eligible participants in programs which are part of the Onward/Masa partnership may qualify for additional scholarships. For more information, call Onward Israel or your local partner professional.
Participants on Onward Israel- Masa programs may return to Israel on long-term Masa programs after Onward Israel. They may also be eligible for additional scholarships from Masa to help fund their participation, although the size of that scholarship may be influenced by prior participation on Onward Israel. This program is intended for students and young professionals living year-round in the Greater Los Angeles area between the ages of 19-27 (or at least one full year post-high school at the start of the program) who have NOT spent 3 or more months in Israel as part of an educational or peer-program (this includes semester abroad, gap year or any other MASA or Onward Israel program).
Priority is given to students enrolled in Los Angeles universities and colleges (i.e. UCLA, USC, CSUN, SMC, LMU, Occidental).
Previous participation in Taglit-Birthright Israel is encouraged for any eligible applicants
Shared dormitories in Tel Aviv
The number of participants to a dormitory or room is dependent on the size of the accommodations and number of participants on the program. The Onward Israel – Masa program is operated through a partnership between the Beacon and Shapira Foundations and other leading philanthropists, the Government of Israel, The Jewish Agency for Israel and Masa Israel Journey, The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles. It is organized by Young Judaea.
