• George Washington University Hillel

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have unfortunately chosen to cancel this Onward Israel program for summer 2020. To receive information for the summer 2021 season, please visit www.onwardisrael.org/prereg.

George Washington University Hillel Onward Israel is geared towards students from GW looking to live and work in Israel over the summer. This opportunity stretches to a variety of different internship placements and allows students to gain experience in an international community.

Applications for Onward Israel George Washington Hillel 2020 are closed.

Participants will get to live with other GW students on top of travel and learn throughout the experience. In addition, there will be Israel Seminar Days throughout the summer, amongst other activities devoted to learning about Israeli society, economy, technology and more, plus two weekend retreats with other Onward Israel – Masa participants from North America and the world. They have the freedom to live in and explore Israel in a more independent way than just visiting Israel on a trip focused on touring.

    Important Information

     June 1 – July 26, 2020

Cost includes a modest food stipend or provided meals, lodging, insurance, local transportation and program costs.

Participants are responsible for arranging their own flights.

Participants will be required to submit a $300 participation and security deposit in cash upon arrival in Israel. Deposits are refunded at the end of the program pending good standing.

The actual cost of the Onward Israel – Masa program is much higher, and is subsidized up to 70% by Onward Israel, private donors, Masa Israel Journey, and local Jewish communities and institutions.

This Onward Israel program is operated through a partnership between the Beacon and Shapira Foundations and other leading philanthropists, Masa Israel Journey, The Jewish Agency for Israel, George Washington University Hillel and Hillel International.  It is organized by Young Judaea.

    Acceptance Criteria

This program is open to young adults from George Washington University with an interest in interning with the field that compliments what they are studying. This program is ideally for students who have had one previous short-term Israel experience – such as Birthright Israel or a teen travel program – and for students who have a strong desire to be part of a GW student cohort and meet other GW students.

Masa-eligible participants in programs which are part of the Onward/Masa partnership may qualify for additional scholarships. For more information, call Onward Israel or your local partner professional.

Participants on Onward Israel – Masa programs may return to Israel on long-term Masa programs after Onward Israel. They may also be eligible for additional scholarships from Masa to help fund their participation, although the size of that scholarship may be influenced by prior participation on Onward Israel. For details, please contact Masa Israel Journey directly at masainfo@masaisrael.org.

The GW Hillel Onward Israel program is based in Tel Aviv. Participants will be placed in apartments or dorm-style housing in the Tel Aviv area.

The number of participants to an apartment or room is dependent on the size of the accommodations and number of participants on the program.  While meeting common standards, Onward Israel housing differs by program and even within a program. To learn more about this and other Onward Israel housing details, please visit our housing FAQ.
