• Boston Hybrid Summer Internship

Boston Onward Israel Hybrid Summer is an immersive internship program offering resume building placements in a wide variety of opportunities in the greater Haifa area. Participants spend part of the program living, experiencing, and interning in Israel and the other part of the program at home working with their employer remotely.

Develop your professional future and build your resume through a high-level internship in the field of your choice in Haifa while also allowing you to spend time at home this summer! During the Haifa-based portion of the program, you are placed in a work environment based on your skills, interests and future plans.  Experience Israel through exclusive day trips, overnights, seminars, and more.  In your free time, explore Haifa’s amazing nightlife, culture, and rich history with a cohort of other young adults.

If health and safety conditions allow. If not, the program will shift to being entirely remote. The decision will be made approximately two months before the program’s start date. Please note, if this happens, it will affect the types of internships available. Participants who do not wish to participate on an entirely remote program will be permitted to withdraw and receive a full refund for their program fee.

    Important Information

Remote:  Tuesday, June 1 – Monday, June 28
In Israel:  Thursday, July 1 – Wednesday, August 11

Cost includes housing, modest food stipend, emergency medical insurance, local transportation, and organized program costs.

Participants are responsible for arranging their own flights.  Participants will be required to submit a $225 credit card authorization as a participation and security deposit. Charges will not be made if participants complete the program in good standing.

The actual cost of the Onward Israel program is much higher, and is subsidized up to 70% by Onward Israel, private donors, and local Jewish communities and institutions.

*If this becomes a fully remote program, the program cost will change to reflect this shift in expenses. The program cost will then be $150.

Rolling admissions through March 15, 2021 or earlier if the program is full.

Note, there is a chance that health/safety conditions will require us to implement a 2 week quarantine upon arrival in Israel. There is also a chance that the program will shift to entirely remote if travel is restricted past a 2 week quarantine upon arrival. For more information, visit our FAQ responding to COVID-19

Additional scholarships for those who require additional financial assistance are available on a limited basis. For more information, call Onward Israel or your local partner professional.

    Acceptance Criteria

Open to students attending university in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont, or who grew up in Massachusetts. Ideally for students who have had one previous short-term Israel experience – such as Birthright Israel or a teen travel program.

In the event that the program needs to shift to be entirely remote, there could be additional limitations on the types of internship placements available. Participants will be asked to be flexible under these circumstances and Onward Israel is committed to making sure participants still have a professional and positive work experience.

The Boston Onward Israel program has cohorts in three Israeli cities: Jerusalem, Haifa, and Tel Aviv. We do our best to place you in the city you have applied for, but please note that based on rolling admissions and internship placement preferences, it may be necessary to be placed in one of the other cities.

Haifa participants live in the heart of Haifa’s refurbished and bustling port area, side by side with young Jews from around the world and Israeli students.

The number of participants to an apartment or room is dependent on the size of the accommodations and number of participants on the program.  While meeting common standards, Onward Israel housing differs by program and even within a program. This Onward Israel program is operated through a partnership between the Beacon and Shapira Foundations and other leading philanthropists, the Government of Israel, The Jewish Agency for Israel and Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston and is organized by Israel Experience.
